Who can Join

• Youth ages 8 to 17.
• You do not need to have any roller skating or roller derby experience.
• Ursa Minor is 100% gender inclusive!
• 18 or older? Check out our friends at North Star Roller Derby!

How to Join

• Fill out UMJRD registration forms
• Skaters New to junior roller derby: fill out Junior Roller Derby Association (JRDA) player registration forms
  • Make sure you register as “A New Skater”
  • On Skater Information page, enter “Ursa Minor Junior Roller Derby” as League
  • If you don’t already have a derby name or number… that’s OK! Just enter “N/A” for now.
• Get your gear.
  • Visit our Gear page to find out what you need to have to skate. You can check out gear from our extensive gear library or buy your own gear. Before buying gear, check with Ursa’s coaching staff to make sure you are buying appropriate roller derby gear.
• What to wear
  • Wear clothes you can easily move in and express who you are! Many skaters wear shorts and tshirts. Remember to bring socks if you wear sandles to practice.
• Come to a practice – any practice! You can start any time.
  • Fee is $10 per practice or $90 per 11-week session
  • First practice is free!
• Training – Skaters are divided into levels
  • Level 1 – Skaters learn basics: skating on quad skates, stride, stopping, falling and rules of roller derby
  • Level 2 – Skaters learn additional skills, positional blocking and hitting.
  • Level 3 – Skaters develop advanced skills and are prepared for full contact game play.
